Former Petersburg General (Coastal Plain League), Don Kelly made his Major League debut on Monday night as a member of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Don saw his first action as a Major Leaguer as a pinch hitter in the 9th inning.
Don played for the Generals in 2000. He hit .313 while stealing 28 bases for the Generals. Petersburg went on to win the Coastal Plain League championship that season.
This great quote by Don sums it all up, “It’s been unbelievable,” Kelly told Jim Molony of MLB.com. “I went to Spring Training looking to get some playing time, get some at-bats, and then things just kind of went on from there. This is a dream come true.”

Former Mankato Moondog, Tyson Brummett was recently named Pac-10 Pitcher of the week. The UCLA senior pitched a complete game, while striking out 9 batters to lead the Bruins to a win over Stanford.
To say that Tyson Brummett’s 06 season for the Moondogs was a success is an understatement. He logged 64.1 and posted a 4-4 record for the 4th place Moondogs. But, those stats don’t give you the whole story about his summer. Tyson posted the leagues fourth lowest era (1.40), and struck out 54 batters while surrendering only 17 walks.

I consider my “local” team to be the Denton Outlaws of the Texas Collegiate League. Every year that the Outlaws have been in existance, they have had great teams. In 2005, they won the TCL championship.
I am very intrigued by three freshman on this years Outlaw’s roster. Jeremy Gould from Duke. Mike Ojala from Rice, and local boy Aaron Baker from OU.
Jeremy Gould is currently sporting a very respectable .310 batting average, while seeing action in 21 games for the Blue Devis this season.
Mike Ojala is a very talented freshman trying to get playing time for a team with a top notch pitching staff. Mike has made 4 appearances for the Owls this season.
Aaron Baker is perhaps one of the best freshman in the country. He is also one of the top prospects that will be playing in the TCL this season. Aaron is a local Denton kid, who had an outstanding high school career at Denton High. He was eventually drafted by the Twins in the 36th round of the 2006 MLB draft. He is currently leading the Sooners with a .367 batting average and 44 hits. I am really looking forward to seeing him play again.

This prospect watch is on the lookout for a very talented outfielder from Coastal Carolina University. Tommy Baldridge is one of the team leaders for a very talented team. Look for them to make a run at Omaha this summer. Tommy is currently sporting a very hefty .407 batting average. He has 44 hits and has smacked 5 homers. Tommy will be playing his summer ball for the Carolina Sox of the Southern Collegiate Baseball League.
The Carolina Sox will also have two of his teamates playing for them. Ricky Grice and Chance Gilmore be playing for the Sox this summer as well.
