Summer Ball Info!

Posted by collegesummerball on April 18, 2007

Since I have started this blog, I have received a lot of emails (by last count this morning it was at 75) about this blog. I have received emails from fans in general, GM’s of leagues, head coaches, parents of players, players themselves, 1 umpire and a nice grandmother of a player. The overwhelming majority of emails center around these questions taken from the emails directly……

1. Can you give me info about this (insert league) league?
2. Why don’t you cover (insert college team) more?
3. Can you post a write up about (insert son’s name)?
4. How do you have time to post so much?

Number 4 is the easiest to answer. I just love the game, and I make time when my little kiddo’s are asleep.

In reference to the other questions, I just hope that I’ve done the best job that I can.

I also want to extend this invitation to you parents, athletes and coaches. Since there are a lot of players playing summer ball this season, I can’t possible keep up with everybody, you are more than welcome to send me any information or stats about a certain player. If there is a certain player you want spotlighted, just shoot me an email at 316sports@gmail.com. I will post a write-up as soon as I can.

Thanks for letting me ramble.

Davidson Copperhead Prospect to Watch For!

Posted by collegesummerball on April 18, 2007

With hundreds of college baseball players playing summer ball, this list of “prospects” is vast. I love finding the prospect in the rough. Not every prospect can or will attend a big division one school. As the quality of college baseball improves, we are seeing many top notch players attending smaller schools.

Summer Ball has found one such prospect playing for the Davidson Copperhead of the Southern Collegiate Baseball League. Max Fulginiti is a an outstanding freshman outfielder for the Panthers of High Point. Max had an excellent high school career at Charlotte Christian H.S, where he helped lead the team to back to back state baseball titles. Currently, Max has seen limited playing time, but when he plays, he produces. He is batting .316 on the season. He has also seen valuable time in the outfield on defense. The High Point Panthers are currently 6-6 in conference play this season. I am sure that Max will see more playing time if he continues to swing a hot bat.

The Davidson Copperheads will open their 2007 season on June 4 against the Morgantown Aggies.

The Texas Collegiate League has put a press release out about some of its former and current players. The TCL must be checking Summer Ball out because you will remember that I spotlighted Forsythe, Cassavechia, and Breslin within the last couple of days.

Prospect to Watch For!

Posted by collegesummerball on April 18, 2007

Fans of the Wilson Tobs of the Coastal Plain League have plenty to be excited about this summer. They should field a great team, and will contend for the championship.

One prospect that I want to keep an eye on is from the small private school, Barton College. Travis Holloman is a junior outfielder from Clayton, NC. He is currently batting .350 with 4 homers and 34 runs batted in. He also has 17 stolen bases. 2007 will be his Holloman’s second summer with the Tobs.

Hastings played for the Waterloo Bucks of the Northwoods League last season. He hit .273 in 61 games for the Bucks.

Zongol Pitching Lights Out!

Posted by collegesummerball on April 18, 2007

Joe Zongol (RPI) is pitching like he’s Cy Young. The 6-4 Junior from Flower Mound, TX is making a name for himself at Rensslaer. Joe is currently 3-0 with and ERA of 0.48 ERA. He has only given up 21 hits in 37 innings pitched. He also has pitched 2 shutouts for the Reds. Given the fact that he is a tall lefty, he will be an intriguing player when draft time comes.

Joe will be playing his 07 summer ball for the Saratoga Phillies of the NYCBL.

Richard is a freshman catcher from Sumter, SC. To win the award, Richard hit .667 with a grand slam and eight RBI’s.

Fischer To Help Lead the Monarchs Rotation!

Posted by collegesummerball on April 18, 2007

Jeff Fischer (Eastern Michigan) is expected to be one of the top pitchers in the Great Lakes League this summer. The 6-5/200 junior is having a great year for the Eagles. He is 3-3 with a 3.10 ERA. His last start was perhaps his best start of the year. He pitched a complete game shutout over Ohio. The Eagles won 2-0.

Jeff will be playing his 07 summer ball for the Lake Erie Monarchs of the Great Lakes League. He will have several familiar faces on the team. Four of Jeff’s Eastern Michigan teammates will be playing for the Monarchs this summer as well.

Bolivar A’s (Athletes in Action) SS Wins Award!

Posted by collegesummerball on April 18, 2007

Traditionally, the Ohio Athletic Conference doesn’t normally get a lot of attention. If Ben Titus has a say in this, it’s going to change soon. The Otterbein shortstop recently was named the OAC Hitter of the Week. To say Ben had a great week is surely an understatement. Ben hit .875 for the week. He had seven hits in eight at bats, which included him hammering two home runs. Ben’s great week helped to lead Otterbein to a first place tie in the OAC.

Ben will be playing his 2007 summer ball for the Bolivar A’s (Athletes in Action) of the New York Collegiate Baseball League.
