Fans of the UT Longhorns and the TCL will know all about Randy Boone. Randy was hands down the best pitcher in the TCL last year. He went 6-0 with the minuscule ERA of 1.13 while pitching for the Coppell Copperheads. He turned down a potential contract with the Twins to return to Austin for his senior season. He has not disappointed fans this season. He is currently 2-5 with an ERA of 3.25. He also leads the team with 9 saves.
Many of you might not know that Randy keeps a small diary for the Longhorn site entitled Covering the Bases with Boone.

I received an email from a parent of a player that played in the Florida Collegiate Summer League last season. This parent wanted to know if I would or could cover the FCSL a little more. Truthfully, I really didn’t know that much about the league, so I decided to read up on the league. While reading about the FCSL and its mission, I came across this;
FCSL is all about community building. Our games are FREE ADMISSION, providing a fun, festive family evening of entertainment.
I am assuming this is still true, because I love it. In this day and age when most summer leagues (that will remain nameless) see fit to charge up to 10 bucks a game for tickets, the FCSL is a breath of fresh air. I enjoy the fact that the teams and league are a non-profit organization, and are not “in it to make money first.”
The FCSL site can be found here.

I am very pleased to announce that two Michigan State Spartans will get to see what the TCL is all about. Jon Kibler and Mike Monterey will be playing for the Weatherford Wranglers. Both are pitchers and should anchor the pitching staff in Weatherford.
Kibler is a left-handed junior from Freeland, MD. He is currently 3-3 with a 3.40 ERA in 45 innings pitched. He has prior pitching experience with Western Carolina in 2005.
Monterey is a junior who can also play first base from Farmington Hills, MI. He is 1-1 with 5.15 in 17 innings this season.
Hopefully if Kibler and Monterey enjoy themselves in Weatherford, the TCL will be able to attract players from northern schools.

Summer Ball will be more diligent in the future to highlight former summer league players. I have been pretty busy at work, so you will have to excuse the last couple of days.Colter Bean played for the Winchester Royals of the Valley League in 1999. Colter attended Auburn University. Colter played in the College World Series with Auburn and was also named to the All-SEC team in 2000. Colter holds several Auburn baseball records including having pitched in 108 games for the Tigers. Following his graduation, Colter was signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Yankees on May 31, 2000. Colter made his major league debut on April 26, 2005. He has 3 career appearances for the Yanks. Colter is currently playing for the Scranton-Wilkes Barre Yankees.

This will be a great season for the Battle Creek Bombers of the Northwoods League. I am personally interested in seeing how Phillip Myers (Seminole CC) performs. He is having an outstanding year so far for the Raiders. He is currently 5-0 with a 2.04 ERA. He has 45 strikeouts in 35 innings pitched. He has also not surrendered a homer this season.
Battle Creek opens their 07 season on May 31.
