Mountaineers Pound out 17 hits for Win!

The Vermont Mountaineers needed just about every one of their 17 hits last night. They wound up defeating the Keene Swamp Bats 10-7.

CPL Pitching Notes for June 18th!

The following four pitchers had outstanding performances in the Coastal Plain League.

John Primus (NC A and T) pitches for the Edenton Steamers. John pitched 8 solid innings of 3 hit ball last night. He gave up 1 earned run and struck out 5 batters.

Scott Patterson (Mercer) was the winning pitcher for the Florence Red Wolves last night, which improves his record to 4-0. Scott went 7 strong innings, gave up 0 runs on five hits, and struck out 5.

Daniel Wood (VMI) was solid in relief for the Petersburg Generals. Wood pitched 4 innings and gave up 0 runs on 1 hit. He also struck out 3 batters.

Britton Horn (Trinity, TX) helped to put the New Bern River Rats in the win column. Horn went 7 innings to get his first win of the season. He gave up 0 earned runs on 4 hits.

Prospect to Watch For In The TCL!

I am originally from Michigan, and I love Big 10 baseball, so I am very excited to announce that Jon Kibler (Michigan State) is the next Prospect to Watch For. Kibler pitches for the Weatherford Wranglers, and is pitching like an All-Star. Jon is fresh off an 8 inning, 3 hit, no run game to garner his 2nd win of the season. Jon’s year-to-date totals are amazing. He hasn’t allowed a run in 13 innings of work. He has only surrendered 6 hits and has struck out 12.

NWL Awards For June 18th!

It was a big night in the Northwoods League last night. There were several phenomenal hitting performances last night in the NWL.Hitter of the Night!

Drew Hoisington (Toledo) simply had an outstanding game. He went 4 for 6 for the Rochester Honkers. Drew smacked 2 homers, scored 3 times and knocked in 5.

Runners Up!

If this was any other day, Matt Gaski (UNC-Greensboro) would have been the hitter of the night. Matt also plays for the Rochester Honkers. Matt went 5 for 7 with 2 doubles on the night. He scored once and drove in six to finish out the night.

Pitcher of the Night!

Tim Huber (Nebraska-Omaha) pitches for the Eau Claire Express. He pitched a great game last night, and was rewarded with his 3rd win of the season. Tim pitched a 9-inning complete game. He gave up 2 runs on 8 hits and struck out 8.

Rochester Had Their Hitting Shoes On Last Night!

The Rochester Honkers defeated the Alexandria Beetles by the score of 17-2 last night. Donny Henn from the Post-Bulletin writes;

Rochester Honkers manager Greg Labbe said a few days ago that however lead-off hitter Drew Hoisington goes, so go the Honkers. That would explain what happened Monday at Mayo Field.

Hoisington went crazy at the plate, and his teammates happily followed in a 17-2 rain-delayed romp over the Alexandria Beetles.

Rochester (10-8) banged out a season-high 22 hits including three home runs and beat the North Division leading Beetles (12-7) for the fourth time in four tries this season.

Pitcher of the Night!
Kyle Nunley (Benedictine) pitches for the Kitsap Blue Jackets. Kyle didn’t factor in a decision, but he still pitched well enough to win this award today. He went 6.1 innings, gave up 1 run on 3 hits and struck out 4 on the night.

Hitter of the Night!
There were a ton of good hitting performances last night, but Nick Cejka (Columbia-Basin) wins the award. Nick played DH last night for the Bend Elks. He went 3 for 3 with 2 doubles on the night. He also scored 2 runs, and drove in 2 on the night.

With only one game being played last night in the Western Major League, it was easy to pick this award winner.

Grant Kveder (College of Southern Idaho) plays 3B for the Lethbridge Bulls. Last night, Grant went 3 for 5 with a run scored to help lead the Bulls to a win over Medicine Hat.

Outlaws Try Yoga?

Hitter of the Night!

Rob Lawler (Pitt) plays 2b for the Webster Yankees. He went 3 for 5 with a homer and a double on the night. Rob also scored once and drove in 2 on the night.

Runner Up!

Justin Hart (Union College) is the Hornell Dodgers catcher. Hart went 3 for 5 with a homer on the night.

Pitcher of the Night!

Justin Latta (Midland College) is a relief pitcher for the Glen Falls Eagles. Last night, Justin notched the unconventional 3 inning save. He allowed 0 runs on 1 hit and struck out 3.

Runner Up!

Daniel Tenholder (Austin Peay) was also brilliant in relief for the Hornell Dodgers. Daniel went 3 innings, gave up 0 runs on 2 hits and struck out 7 batters.
